Need An Expansion Cap, What Could Be Easier????
« on: 18 January 2010, 15:39:42 »

Ok, Cars been off the road for the best part of a month now for various reasons but mainly no money and overheating/boiling over reasons.

Need an expansion cap as this is split, went to my local VX dealers (Thurlbys of Boston) and he informs me they cannot supply one as the car is so old they don't have to supply parts for it anymore :o :o. Thought this was rubbish, but  had to take his word for it.

Tried all my local factors, no good. Found a few on Ebay, but these are general caps and not specifically for the Omega Diesel.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction here please.

Thanks as ever.

I really know nothing about Omega diesel's...only do petrol's, but as it's the BMW engine used in the 5 series and the P38 Range Rover you may have more luck in searching for those models.

I think I was being a bit dim in my last post, the engine may be the same but I imagine it would have large differences in it's layout and things like coolant tanks in the 5 series and RR
This is a link to an expansion tank with cap, the cap looks like all the others I've seen. Would a cap from any Omega not fit it?

Its good to see that vx dealers are improveing their customer service image  :o at a time where so many good companies are going to the wall or struggling to keep their heads above the water in these hard times.
Email vx head office and complain about one of their dealerships offering poor service. >:(

What a load of rubbish, i was going to write something a bit stronger but dont want to upset anyone.

Anyway, Wayne PM me your reg number as there are two different ones for the TD engine.

Ok they aren't available in the UK but they ARE available from Opel and if your Dealer doesn't know/can't be arsed to order one then i can

Price wise your looking at either £9.96 + VAT or £6.47 + VAT

Sorry for the rant but this sort of thing from dealers just gives us all a bad name.

Cheers

Sorry others got in before me. Header tank cap is different between the petrol and diesel apart from the 2.0 and 2.2

So all petrol and 20/22 deisels are the same and then there are two different ones for the 2.5

It is actually correct mate what the dealer has told, the parts do become obsolete for a car when it gets a certain age, well so i have been told anyway, but still cant understand why i can still get parts for my mig at my local vx dealer.suppose it all depends on how bothered they can be on the day. ;)

As GME only have one warehouse in the UK you tend to find that they will only keep current model parts and models that have just gone out of production because of the space they have.

For example the brand new Astra J parts need space so GME will start removing Astra G parts from the shelf to make room.

These parts are then sent back to Opel and are stocked at variuos warehouses around europe. When we (The dealer) needs one of these parts it's call a Non Stocked Order which any dealer can order via DCS Ordering system.

Once that parts have been sent to europe they then entre into a clearing system which takes into account all movmnets of the parts. After a few years the parts with no movment will be sold off to Ob Stock dealers across europe

Thats about a easy as i can make it sound but there are alot of different factors that go into making the part Non Stock

Cheers

PM sent, thanks Andy.

By the way, the parts man's suggestion was try a local scrappy. See, thats thinking on your feet for you. Apart from, living in Boston, we just dont have any. There was one about a 40 mile round trip away but that was in the process of shutting down 2 months before christmas and my next nearest one is Wisbech, about a 70-80 mile round trip.

Glad to see VX spares depts are pretty much as i remember them from when i was a mechanic 15+ years ago, should have brought a Ford!!!! ;D ;D ;D
