Steering Box seal ??
« on: 21 January 2010, 11:58:48 »

Thought it was just dirty water, but it is oil on the nut and star headed bolt on the top of the steering box.
I tried with a T30 to see if it was loose but all appears tight.
Cleaned of oil yesterday, but it is back again today and has dripped down onto idler arm.Power steering fluid is between level marks but obviously a leak.
If I remove the nut and star headed bolt is there a washer or a seal which could have perished and be replaced or will I upset the steering if I remove nut/bolt ?

That is the adjuster for the sector preload in the steering box, dont touch it unless you know what you are doing.
Are you sure its ATF thats leaking (red colour) could it be engine oil from the cam cover.

It didn,t look like ATF when I wiped it off...just dirty black in colour, but as I had cleaned it all away yesterday was concerned back again today.
No evidence of cam seals leaking as no marks on any surrounding areas.
I will leave it well alone then and post again if it is back in few days.
