Suspension Dampers
« on: 26 January 2010, 15:35:27 »

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this forum and was wondering if you guys could give me some advice?
I have a S Plate 2.5 V6 Elite that we have painted up like a NYC Taxi that we use for charity events throughout europe.

It has the self leveling suspension on it and the rear dampers have started leaking quite badly!
I am looking to change the dampers and maybe the springs what do you all suggest is the best and cheapest route for us in order to get the best out of the car?
She was a little wobbly through the Pyrenees last year!

Many thanks,
Steve

self levellers will be wall-o-matic, guessing if you want to chuck it around some Alpine routes, two main options:

GM MV6 Spec, shocks only on that shape, stiffen it up nicely.

More hard core - Blisterines, get good reviews here, but it will harm the ride quite a bit compared to MV6

MV6 sounds OK.
Would I need to disable the self leveling? And how would I do that?
Can I leave the std springs in or do you think I should change them?
Cheers

You can pull the fuse for the self leveling pump, or un-plug it.

Pre-facelift MV6 it was just shocks that altered the system, it had the same springs as other spec.

Facelift it was shocks and springs  :y

Thanks for the help.
Will I be able to buy the MV6 dampers from a motor factors or will I have to venture down the dealers?
Is it worth doing the front struts/dampers at the same time?

Cheers.

So, pre face lift are not lowered by 15mill ? and facelift are as they have differant springs? some confussion over this subject perhaps?

I fitted mv6 rear shocks to my face lift elite but never got round to swapping the self levelling springs for mv6 to match, the mv6 shocks failed.

self levellers are 300ish a pair retail or 150 a pair in trabe club. Stock or mv6 shocks are about 80 a pair on trade club which should be fine with stock sprins if tunnies post is correct.

Vx springs are expensive, kyb via a factors or mail order are a good alternative. These parts wont affect set up on the rear.

But if you do front wish bones as well and are worried about front shocks and springs you may as well do the lot as the front camber WILL need setting up at the likes of wheels in motion at an added cost of about £80 a go.

Always change suspension parts in pairs per axle, a full set is desirable but not vital.

Hi,
Are the KYB dampers the same as the MV6 ones?
Cheers.
