Idle problem 2.0 litre Omega GLS
« on: 30 January 2010, 13:57:03 »

I have a 1996, N reg Omega estate, 2 litre petrol. It is racing when stationary rather than idling at just under 1000rpm. It races between 1000rpm and 2500rpm then back to 1000rpm, then back to 2500rpm. It sometimes clears itself and settles back at 1000rpm but generally it just races.

I have changed the air and oil filters, changed the oil, as it was a bit mucky. This made a difference for a short while but now is back to the same problem.

Any help is much appreciated

The 2 normal causes are sticky ICV or an air leak.  Also, definately worth cleaning out the breathers - if the oil was manky, you can bet the throttle and breather system are as well.

I'm not terribly mechanically minded, where are the breathers and are they easy for someone like me to clean ???
