Quick help before it goes dark! rear suspension sh
« on: 07 February 2010, 15:31:22 »

after reading the how to section of replacing self leveling rear shocks I'm at the point where old one is off, new one is partially on.

On the old one there is a steel washer supporting a heavy duty rubber which locates under the car boot area. The new VX ones don't have this but have identical rubbers.
Surely the plate washer is needed as it has a flange going through the rubber?
If so I'm taking it that they have to come off the old ones which at present look part of the shock as years of rust have welded it there?

Please help I need to finish this today still have other side to go! :'(

Just do what I did and get a thick body washer from a bodyshop supplier or a bracing washer from somewhere like Wickes. Both do the same job. Olden days you used to get a new shocker with all the bits supplied and I suspect you still do, so it may be that the supplier has sold you a set after someone has pirated it.

No these were from Andyc on here and are as they should be with two rubbers, and a 16mm nut.

Managed to free the metal washer and metal bush and swapped them over.
Thank you WD40!  :y
