Odd warning light problem!
« on: 06 February 2010, 20:36:36 »

Hi all, My 2.5CDX estate has developed an odd problem. When driving the traction control and brake pad warning light comes on and the speedo stops working! once the steering got heavier as well but normally the car still drives fine - any ideas where I should start?
I'm going to check the front pads as the discs could do with changing anyway, but it's the speedo thing that is confusing me.
Any help would be much appreciated.  ::)

No doubt at all...  ABS ECU  ...  loads of threads on the subject, plus a "guide" entry.

BBA-Reman sorted mine .. but MarkDTM rates another guy ....

Safe yes .... legal .. debatable ....   Law requires a working speedo at all times ... but how would they know ???

Steering can get heavy suddenly which is a tad offputting, but liveable with.

When mine was playing up I found that after about an hour it would suddenly start working again !!

I believe the common failure is in a very thin PCB "track" that corrodes/splits ... my guess is that at certain temperatures it made sufficient contact to work, out side those temps it didn't ...  :(

BBA-Reman turned mine around within 5 days .. sent it monday got it back friday.

The car is driveable without the ECU .. but no ABS/TC/ steering input/speedo ... quite where you stand insurance wise in case of an incident is highly suspect IMHO ...

:(

edited for smelling pistakes :(

I'm not sure where the brake pad warning comes into this!? You sure it's low pad  :-/, cos this should come up as a message on the display .... mine does!  :)

Due to the similarity of the lights it's my guess he's confused them ...

As from experience today it may be worth checking the abs fuse in the fusebox.

I was told by the fella i bought the car off that the abs ecu was knackered, but found out today it was only the fuse gone :)
