Dangerous problem?
« on: 15 February 2010, 13:43:16 »

Hello everyone,

Hope your all well? I've got more problems im affraid  :( but going on what some of the threads say i already know the answer just looking for a bit conformation really  :-/

Problem one, is that on more than one occassion now the car has just cut out tends to be when it's stood still or crawling in traffic. is this the crank sensor?? :-/

Problem two, is that the power steering decides when it wants to work by it's self again this is when it's stood still or parking, could this be the power steering pump  :-/

and last one for now i hope  ;D is that the car never turns over first time  :-? i have to turn the key twice before it turns over any ideas? i was thinking fuel pump maybe?? :-/

TIA

1) could be ICV or Crank Sensor, clean ICV first then do a paper clip test.

2) does assitance come back with a few more revs at low speed?

1=Read the codes and see if there are any codes stored
2=Try changing the servotronic relay as these can play up sometimes and cause intermitant problems.
3=You could have a problem with the immobiliser not seeing the chip in the key.
Hope these are of help. :y

ICV - Idle Control Valve - on passenger side of engine, metal cylinder with elec plug in back and hose fitted to front - fits into side of plenum via large rubber "bung".  Remove and clean with carb cleaner - lightly oil and refit.  May need more than one go!!

The servotronic relay is located in the cabin behind a kick panal, not sure which one sorry, but it is part of the power assistance system that regulates the assistance at low/high speeds, this can play up and you lose assistance at low speeds, ie parking. it is restored at slightly higher engine speeds. The icv valve is located on the side if the plenium on the pass side and may need cleaning.
The immobilser ring that is part of the ignition barrel assy may be faulty and may need changing, this should throw a code so get the codes read via the paper clip meathod.

Does anybody know for sure which one it is and best practice to test it? I changed pas pump and still it feels occasionally heavy when stationary.
