Help plese - car seems to be slowly dying
« on: 16 February 2010, 16:10:24 »

Hi,

Just had a call from my wife. To add to the problem where the car keeps stalling (mentioned in a previous post) the following is now happening:
- no climate control, can't set auto or eco and no lights on
- and the steering has gone 'heavy'

any ideas?

Thanks.

The car is back now. I've done a paper clip test and have
39   O2 Sensor 1 Circuit Voltage High
Question is, would this account for the partial loss of power steering and loss of in car heating/cooling? I've driven the car briefly and the steering is definately harder than it should be/was. I don't know what the 02 sensor does, but I would have thought it alters the petrol/air mix so can't see how it can account for the other problems.

On the weekend I did change the oil, filter and air filter. Could I have done something wrong here.

I've also checked the power steering fluid level, I'm not sure how high it should be, but it comes about 1/2 way up the stick.

That's fixed the steering and air con. Just got the fault code 39 (O2 Sensor 1 Circuit Voltage High) to sort - anybody tell me where the sensor is, and what sensor I need to ask for at Vauxhall for a replacement. Could the fault code 39 cause the stalling issues I have at idle (didn't have this fault code when I checked for it a few days ago when the problem started)?

O2 Sensor 1
In the exhaust downpipe before the CAT for bank 1.

Bank 1 is cylinders 1,3,5. Cylinders 1,3,5 are on the right hand side.

Hang on for a bit more guidance before you go and order a sensor. The EGR is on that side of the engine, don't know if you should check that first :-/

Thanks, I'll wait for a couple more replies first. It would be good if this could be the cause of my stalling, then at least I would know what was going on.

So I'll get one of those, is Vauxhall the best place to get one from?

Also are they an easy thing for me to replace?

Tell you what, I'm so glad this forum exists - it is saving me loads of money at the garage  :y

I wouldn't think Vauxhall is the cheapest of places to buy, but I'm sure someone will advise where to buy.
This link .... http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1253462747 isn't a direct answer to your question, but it should give you an idea of where you're looking. Your car only has ONE cat & lambda per side (not 2 as in the pictures - they're the last 2.6 & 3.2 cars)
