Heater Matrix questions
« on: 26 February 2010, 16:34:07 »

I am fairly sure now that that is what the problem is on my car. I sometimes get drops of water coming out of the air con condensate drain pipes (the one on the drivers side of the g/box). It is hot coolant. Plus the drivers side windscreen mists up easily.

It is bad timing as I can't spare the car out of action at this time of year as it is also our tractor.

How much is a new matrix approx? Is it VX only or an Ebay item?

Apart from having no heater what else wouldn't work if I temporarily excluded the matrix by inserting a copper tube into the in and out pipes in the engine compartment. ? It would also prove the matrix was the problem.

Mr Bionic. Could you forward by PM your tips on doing the job please? I have had a look at the OOF cutting thread.

Hi ya, what you discribe sounds like what my car did last summer and I did cut the inlet & outlet from the matrix and bridge with some copper tube without any problems, infact I left it in that state for 5 months
The matrix I bought is a genuine Valeo that cost me £60.00 from my local factor,VX wanted an arm & leg for it.
As for replacing the matrix its a pain in the neck/back and knee's but not difficult.

Bypassing the matrix shouldn't cause any problems with anything else; and as you say, if the leakage goes away, you'll know for sure that it is the matrix or connections to it that are causing your problem.

Vx price is somewhere close to double what iainb paid.  No obvious reason why an aftermarket one won't be OK, but I certainly wouldn't choose the cheapest one I could find.

I got mine from here - http://www.carcooling.co.uk/catalog/Vauxhall_Omega_B_94_99-2811-1.html - turned up very quickly and was of good quality.  No probs since fitting.
