A/C pressure's gone AWOL
« on: 08 March 2010, 00:36:38 »

My A/C hasn't worked for the last week so I booked a re-gas for yesterday afternoon, thinking (hopeing) that maybe it had just lost a little pressure since the re-gas about two years ago and had dropped below the pressure level required for the compressor to activate.
No such luck, there's no pressure at all. :'(

There's some green UV dye to be seen around what appears to be a sensor valve hanging below the lower schraeder valve (r/h side viewed from front of car) and it's unlikely to be from the last re-gas as I've pressure washed the engine bay at least 4 times since then.
Anone know if this "sensor" is prone to fail ?

You've got a leak mate - take it to an air con specialist who'll advise.

Don't think you'll get it all done for £25 though!!

Yep, I think it's safe to say there's definately a leak there. Completely empty, no pressure at all !
I was at an A/C specialist for the re-gas. That's how we found the residual dye on the valve. Couldn't do the pressue test and relevant repair work as it was only scheduled for a re-gas.
A basic, cheapo, no UV dye re-gas is £45 at Kiwk-Fleece and they do not offer a repair service as yet.  Work done at a specialist will cost significantly more.
My mate owns a breakers and has the A/C equipment to comply with the regulations for scrapping cars. May have a word with his A/C chappie.

I use a mate (runs a scrappy) to empty a/c systems - I then do any repairs - and  we can check no leaks using the vacuum gear.  Use a mobile a/c specialist to check and regass (£50 for notes!)

Are you saying they will test for £25 or fix leak and regass for £25??
