the pipe in the tank looks ok. the car does not start strait away either. there are no codes from the paper clip test. any suggestions would be helpfull. i am going to do a service somtime this week ie air filter, glow plugs, fuel filter, oil filter and oil do you think any of these will help or could it be the pump its self thats knackerd

Would i be right in saying the lift pump only runs on cold starts, and not during normal running. I know my old 325tds ran that way and so does the current tractor,it cuts out just after the glow plug light goes out.  I know on the bmw's the lift pumps can break at the top where the pipes attach, so they suck air if the fuel level is to low. Does it start if tank level over half way (roughly top of pump) ?

A few people have tried explaining to me about injector failing and the symptoms involved, but my cure for stalling at junctions is to add more fuel to the tank, I no longer use the fuel gage reading unless flushed and want full/ 3/4 tank and use the stalling as my fuel top up time. I have assumed(and yes that spells `ass u me d`) all sorts else wrong with the motor, I have also cleaned the lift pump ext it made no difference for me.
