Entwood read the codes - thanks
He started a new thread with the codes read but no codes were associated with the gearbox.
I'm going to continue running it and see if the problem persists!
Hmmm, possible the reader couldn't access gearbox ecu properly

It read "an" autotransmision module and reported "no codes present" in both active and stored modes, but as I've never actually used it on a car with a known autobox problem I can't say if it is right or wrong .... :(

"Pigtown" did say that when the problem occured there was no readout on the screen, he mentions the EML came on in his post .. but the EML was not working yesterday... (perhaps the bulb has blown and not been removed which was my first thought).

I just wonder if the "limp mode" he thought he was in was in fact the LPG throwing a wobbly as it certainly is not running properly, and hasn't since he got the car a year ago.

The light I thought was the EML is a car with a spanner through it. Which I now realise is not the EML!
Driving about the last couple of days there has been no problem but I haven't done any distance. I will see after driving to work on Monday.

Hang on .. car with spanner IS the EML ... "gearbox" look-a-like is the emissions light ..

Hmmm....that P0140, definatley is 140? not 340?  :-/

Reason I ask..typical 2.2 prob...EML on (but not if the bulb is blown) and 3rd gear sounds just like CAM sensor fault. And its a hot start problem......altho it takes longer to start when the fault shows itself.

If you see the 2.2 again Entwood, pop the connector of the cam sensor, start it up, and you should get P0340 as well as P0140.....if you do then....ignore my ramblings  :y

Definitely a P0140 off the code reader ... and I'm just wondering if the code P0650 threw me off and I assumed the EML light was out .. when in fact the emissions light was .....  :(

In which case it MIGHT be that he's had an emissions "problem" since he bought the car, which would explain the poor running and the other 2 codes.

I'm wondering if the O2 sensor is fubar.. and is why some scrote has removed the bulb. The repair to the damaged wiring could be coincidental - or could be the problem I suppose - but that would not explain the emissions light not working ??

Last question for an expert then .. would an emissions light failure (or not fitted) give a code P0650 ??

Hmm....emissions must be miles out imo for the emissions light to be on.....my 2.2 failed its MOT for emissions before i sold it.....the emissions light wasnt on (and yes the bulb worked), however i did used to get O2 sensor faults.....but i used to put this down to running on lpg upsetting the sensors....maybe on my 2.2 the sensors where fubared  :-/

However they wouldnt cause the autobox to go into 'limp home' mode, which to me sounds like its doing.

Give me a PM if pigtown arranges to come over to yours again.....and i'll pop over too, if thats ok  :y
