CV Boot.... I Think ???
« on: 15 March 2010, 19:03:54 »

Ok changed both rear springs over the weekend as well as changing the door check strap washers to get rid of the horrid door crack when they open.

However i have noticed that on the n/s rear driveshaft towards the centre of the car there is a rubber gaiter, I believe it is called a CV Boot ?, anyway it has a big split in it so my question to the exprienced out there is ..

1. Is it a hard job to do.. never changed one before
2. It doesnt look expensive but anyone got any ideas on cost involved?

Cheers

It is called a cv boot.
1.  It  depends on type of join and how easy the drive shaft comes off but normally quite easy to do (some types do require a fitting tool/cone to fit).
2.  Average cost is about a fiver.

If you want i'll  get you a price (im in trade) and if you need any help just let me know.

You've never had a quote from Hyundai have you!. SWMBO used to have a Lantra, I priced up just the boot from the dealer and was quoted ........ £35  :o I even suggested that she'd quoted for the CV joint aswel as the boot, but no, that was just for the boot. A new generic boot from a local mmotorfactor was £3  :y  :y  :y

Well just FYI

Looks a bit harder to do than a FWD CV boot. First of all the are two types listed, either Loebro or Siginaw kits.

Both kits contain inner and outer boots as it looks like you have to remove the outer joint and boot to get the inner boot off.

You will also need new driveshaft bolts as these are normaly a sod to get undone, Torque for these bolts is 50NM then + 60 and +15 degrees

Now the hard part

Loebro Boot Kits, 90512953 £51.04 + VAT
Siginaw Boot Kit, 26055829 £61.26 + VAT

And the Loebro kit isn't stocked in the UK

But then you could just buy a pattern multifit one that you can glue together

Good luck, let us know how you get on
