Auto Gearbox 3.2
« on: 21 March 2010, 10:07:00 »

Just to thank Kevin Wood for his efforts yesterday round my place with Tech 2  as we try to find a solution/explanation to the occasional loss of engagement of the auto box and the result sometimes of vehicle going into limp mode with spanner light on - this clears when you stop and restart engine.

Many of you have gone for solenoid change, thrustwasher breakdown, ATF change etc - I have done the ATF and filter change and no thrust washer was found in old ATF.

Hope we can build something for maintenance guide at some stage but observations so far:

1. Not all Tech 2 codes appear on Jimbob's maintenance guide re. Omega codes as I think he was just showing what was possible with paper clip and pedal trick.

2. I have been getting P1700 which is "Service Vehicle Request from Transmission Module".

3. Kevin please correct me on this if necessary but when we drilled down from P1700 within Tech 2 we got a code P0730 which has appeared on OOF before and is "Incorrect Gear Ratio".

4. Another code also came up which I have forgotten now (but Kevin will remember) which indicated a fault on the speed sensor link to the gearbox.

5. However, because I had a new crank sensor 3 months ago we have to eliminate that old code from the equation and so for the moment KW has cleared codes and we will see how it goes as it may have been the crank sensor failure which sent the speed fault to the gearbox.

6. The bottom line on the logic is this - if there is a fault in the wire/unit that sends speed information to the gearbox, then the gearbox picks up a mismatch between speed of engine and gear it is in and registers a fault which is the code 1700 and 730 possibly.

We will now give it a few days and see what codes come back.

Is there a list of all Tech 2 codes for Omega to be put on OOF or is this not feasible? - i.e. I am thinking of sub-menus beneath the codes that are available from pedal and paperclip test for some of these issues that appear on OOF regularly?

We found P0725 and P0730 in the autobox.

It will be interesting to see what is stored if the problem recurrs. I suspect P0725 might have been related to the crank sensor failure.

We have a similar set of codes up here with Brians 2.2 that he recently purchased....   :(
