Sum plug stripped thread
« on: 27 March 2010, 17:37:17 »

I have just gone to change the oil and the sump plug was loose!! I have dropped the oil but the plug will not tighten in the sump. The thread on the plug does not look too great but not bad enough to stop it tightening. I think?? Obviously I will get a new plug from VX on Monday but not convinced it will be secure enough. Has anyone a solution to repairing the sump thread, Helecoil etc or can it be tapped out a size up etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Ian

If the thread in sump pan has stripped, helicoil does seem to work well. MDTM did mine with a spark plug helicoil kit, and I bought a sump bolt from Peugeot (their sump bolts matched the size of MDTM's helicoil kit)
