HELP please!! Possible ECU fault?
« on: 30 March 2010, 19:12:30 »

I'm a newbie but u were too at the beginning!
Have BIG problems with my Omega 2.5 facelift model yr 2000. Have misfiring issue  :-? -
Coil pack replaced but problem not cured
Crank shaft sensor replaced but still problem not cured
Tech device plugged in & fault code showing 'ECU'
All the above done by my trusty mechanic cos i'm thick :-[
Have spotted an identical ECU on ebay from same car, same yr & more importantly same Bosch No. & Vauxhall No.  :y
Just been told by a Vauxhall mechanic that there should be no problems BUT once fitted the car won't start unless i also get the 'immobiliser' pack with chip for key  :-/
So, sorry to have taken forever to get to my point! but IF i need the 2 items where abouts does the immobiliser thing go in the engine bay (i know where to put the ecu).
Any help appreciated  :'(

and you don't even need to visit your mechanic for faulk codes.  provided you have a 2.5 (not 2.6) you can flash them out with a paperclip - see paperclip test on here somewhere - i can never find the link!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Cant see it being your ECU. Do a paperclip test and post the codes up.

I sense a degree of warranted sarcasm in Tunnie's reply...VERY unlikely to be the ECU and sounds a lot like your trusty mechanic is just guessing

As said...do the paperclip test and report back the codes :y Its very easy to do

:o WOW!! Did the paper clip test & u've got to realise that i lead a very sad life so have to say that that test was better than having sex  :P!!!!
Anyway back to being sensible. Ok the 2 codes that came up were -
12 - diagnostic check
31 - No RPM
Then i turned the engine on (V6) as advised & the only code showing was -
12 - diagnostic check!!
So now i know, as most of u guessed  :y that its NOT the ECU, thanks for that.
So now my problem reverts back to my original query -
The engine is misfiring! :-/
Coil pack replaced & crank shaft sensor replaced but still misfiring!
I'd pull my hair out if i had any!!   >:(
Can anyone come up with a solution?
Only thing thats NOT been done is the changing of the spark plugs & leads - cud that help? (sorry not mechanically minded!)

plugs/leads could cause your problem as could spark plugs wells being full of oil due to leaking cam cover seals

12 & 31 are normal, 12 is the start, 31 is there because the engine is not running  :)

Back to basics, check the plug wells for water / oil, and check the condition of the spark plugs themselves, any idea when they were last changed?
