2.0 litre omega running problems update
« on: 26 April 2010, 19:49:02 »

I would just like to thank all the people that offered me advice about my car which i thought was knackered, just been told by main dealers that my problems are caused by faulty ECU. there was no power to cam sensor, no power to airflow meter sensor, intermittent power to crank sensor and so on, It cost me £120+vat to find out, i just wish i had gone to them in the first place i would have saved myself a fortune, im just glad i dont have to start changing engines,  got a second hand ECU £30 main dealer is going to install it on thursday, Happy Daays are here again. :D

If the dealer's right, you have to ask yourself what may have caused the ECU damage, and whether said dealer will be smart enough to check that out before installing another...

My understanding is that these ECUs are rather robust, and will survive a lot of peripheral (e.g. wiring/sensor) faults.  That makes me wonder whether your present ECU is actually faulty, or maybe just not able to work, because of some short/open circuit wiring or sensor.

If the car's at home at the moment, one thing I would suggest is to pop the lid off the long cable tray that runs along the length of the camcover, and have a nose around in there.  On ours a fault was caused when the wiring to the injectors shorted to another wire because of the way they run within the trunking (injector wiring comes out vertically from the connectors which are integral to the bottom of the tray).

If you find any wiring with missing insulation where rubbing has occured, best fix it before the other ECU goes in.

Cheers lads, cars still at main dealers as it is undriveable, As for the cable tray along the rocker cover i dont have one,as my car has after market lpg system fitted,  i Just have the wires tiewrapped together, However some time ago i had a problem with the engine bay electrics plug underneath the fusebox next to the battery, the dealers seem to think that a new plug should cure it,  It Was corroded which caused intermittent starting problems, Which in turn has damaged the ECU, The £120 i have spent today was the easiest money i have ever parted with :D
