this is part of the noramal warm up procedure, although 5k seems a little high?

Press sport mode or snow button briefly, and it should snap out if it.

They all do that Sir!  ;)
Seriously, it does this by design, it's meant to do it. They say it's to help get the cats up to temp ASAP, Senators & Carltons did the same thing.  :y

As far as I remember, when cold the gearbox changes up at higher RPM to help warm the cats up quicker. But I think 5k RPM is excessive, I do notice when cold it changes up at higher RPM.
I believe it was mentioned that by putting it in snow mode this can snap it out of this.
But I've never had cause to try it, and hopefully someone with more knowledge of the auto gbox will be along soon to advise.

EDIT: Too slow  ;D

auto box service wont hurt, filter can be washed out with parafin or similar as the genuine gm filter is almost 70 sobs. 10 litres of dex3 will cover it, fuchs titan 4000 perhaps. Can use gaskits or gaskit goo.

How many miles, any history showing a fluid change, any baning or thumping when engaging drive on level ground is usually a sign the atf needs changing.

hmm, well the box is due a change, 60 to 70k is oof recomended interval for auto's, but i cant see that helping the cold change up point, unless 4 pot plays differant with an auto box? or any engine codes? cam sensor fault can send the box wobly.

Failing that i guess tech 2 for a diag or box firmware update.
