No burning rubber?
« on: 26 April 2010, 13:47:49 »

Greetings and salutations again :)

After a while, I have another question :)
I wanted to by new wheels for my 3.0 V6 Omega. Current ones are 195/65/15 on steel rims.
When I arrived to seller, he was surprised I am using this dimensions. He told me, that this engine must burn those wheels very easily. I didn§t try it yet, so he started his Omega (also 3.0), steped the accelerator and disappeared in smoke... (he is using 215/55/17 on alloy wheels).
I can try as hard as I can, but all my result is only seesaw - the front goes high while the back sits down.
The same is in corners, all I can get is little squeek when accelerating during cornering.
I donīt want to torment it, or buy a new tires every month, but I think 155kW should be able to smoke with any driver behind the wheel. So I would like to know, where can be the problem? Is it in me, that I am doing something wrong? Or might there be some problem with Omega, which is holding her back?
I have to say I have bad exhaust (the middle part has holes in it).
TCS is off (the TCS lights is on).

If yours is an auto, that takes a bit more effort to 'smoke em'

In addition, regardless of the transmission, driving style is the biggest variable. Some drivers have a knack of putting a huge amount of power down without losing traction whereas others are hopeless. ;D

It's all down to how smooth you are.

No points for guessing which class of drivers tend to win traffic light grands prix. ;)

Also depends how mechanically sympathetic you are, which can depend on whether it's your car or not, whether it's got to get you to work reliably or is just a plaything, etc. ::)

Hi,

thanks for quick answers. My car has manual transmission. I have it for reliable and joyful trips during the weekend, for trips to work I have 1.6D VW Golf 2, so I need some refreshment, which only gasoline flowing to at least 6 cylinders can provide :) I am not racing, but I was really surprised when I saw how easily can Omega smoke. I have also checked some vids on internet and started to ask myself, where is the error :) If it is in me, than it is OK, I donīt really need it :) But I was wondering, if my Omega is ill and donīt want to play :) So if you need some skill other than step on gas and release clutch at high RPM, maybe I will let it go :)

The only way I've seen to do it a dry straight start is to turn off TC and then have the revs high before letting the clutch go. Without getting revs up to say 4K or slipping the clutch doesn't seem to get the wheels to spin.

Greetings and salutations,

"problem" seems to be solved :) I have to apologize to Omega, the fault was in me. Today I left to work really late and I had to use Omega. Trying not to be late, I floored it on the crossroad leading out of town and then it came... Spining wheels, smoke everywhere and roaring engine. Too bad that behind me was a police car, so they stopped me right after the crossroad, so I came late to work  ::) But I am happy :) So it seems to be ok, and I thank everyone for their responses. Maybe some day I will find a set of used tyres just for fun, but now I let Omega rest and the TC will stay on :)
