Help me rubbers broken !! - Coilpack
« on: 11 May 2010, 18:14:58 »

Ah... now I've got your attention !.

Over the last week, the cars been misfiring every now and then, and not always either cold or hot ?.

At first I thought it could be the camshaft sensor, so I did a code check using my reader (Sealey VS8700), and there are no codes showing ???? :-? .

I'm thinking it could be a sparking issue somewhere perhaps, and went to get the Coil pack out and found because the rubber insulators on the coil pack have had it, would this cause the spark to arc away from the plug and onto the head, causing an earth ?.

Is there anyway to actually check that the coil pack itself is okay, and bearing in mind I'm no electric wizard, so please don't go too tech with an explanation if you do know how it can be checked out ?.
I'm guessing that you can't get the rubber insulators from Vauxhall on their own, and would result in me paying mega pounds for the whole thing ?.

Does anyone know if there are replacements that don't cost the earth, but just as good.

The only other thing that I thought maybe a possibility is that the exhaust cat is on it's way out, and blocking the cat, causing a misfire.  The car does seam to sound a little louder than I remember ?.

Anyone have any suggestions please ?.

I think Geoff (cruisetopoland) had exactly the same issue, his rubber bits in the coil pack looked the same. He found somewhere that just sold the rubber insualting boot bits, worth sending him a PM to ask where he got them.
If, after replacement that doesn't cure it...I guess a replacement coil pack could be in order and new plugs.

In the old days we used to wait until dark and then have the bonnet open with the engine running watching for any wild sparks. If you have arcing going on somewhere under the bonnet, in darkness you should be able to see it! ;) ;)

I will always say try the simplest things first, then work from there!  But there again I am an old fashoined type of, female, mechanic!! ::) ::) ;D ;)

There good ideas,

I'll pm cruisetopland to find out where he got them from, as don't really want to have to spend huge amounts of money if I can.

And I'll try the night look out idea later on, worth a shot.

Thanks both.

It's a kit for the 2.2 dispack direct from Vx. I'll add the part number in a second ;)

Brillant !.

Thanks for the help, I'll get the pack on order tomorow after work.
Not a bad price seeing as it's a dealer, well compared to the whole unit, plus need the boots anyhow.

Well got the above kit yesterday, and seeing as it was a nice day today, replace the old, and on with the new.
Also used the chance to replaced the Camshaft sensor as well.  Bought one a while ago, as they seem to be a week point, so thought may as well, as I have been having couple of problems last week with the car refusing to start on the first turn of the key.

Result  :)  :)
Engine run's much better, no misfires and starts first turn of the key.

Thanks to all that advised - It's appreciated  :y
