Cam Cover Bolt Tightening
« on: 19 May 2010, 20:39:58 »

Am going to change cam cover gasket and in the maintenance guide it says to tighten the bolts to 8nm. Thing is i dont have a torque wrench so would nip tight be ok?

Also can i get the black sealant from halfords and what size torx screw is needed for the coil pack?

Thanks

The key thing is that they all need to be evenly nipped up  :y  :y

because it needs to be done evenly all around, i would suggest investing in a torque wrench, it will be cheaper in the long run as it will make the gasket last long better.

Oh and use only black sealant from Vx and genuine gaskets

Back to thread, out of all the tools i bought 4 things are most used:

jack, axel stands, halfords 150 set and torque wrench.

With those you can do nearly every DIY job on a Omega  :y

the torx set from Machine Mart isn't bad, probably better than Halfords because there are various size drives ie 1/2" 3/8" & 1/4" I find that the body of some of the smaller Halfords Torx is too big to allow the drive bit to properly engage eg throttle body
