Whats this for? Rod behind climate controls
« on: 31 May 2010, 14:20:26 »

Was removing an old hands-free kit and had to take the climate control panel off to detach the phone cradle.

Found this lying on top of the wiring loom not attached to anything - it was quite badly bent, I've straightened it out.

Looks like a link rod to me, but where should it go and what does it do?  Climate seems to work fine.

Anyone know?

Cheers,
Stephen

As far as I can remember, this rod connects left and right side flap for the defroster (only one servo for this).

Edit: I have to stop idling when writing posts :p

Is it easy/possible to put back, I couldn't see any obvious place for it to go so I'm guessing it's away up the back somewhere   :'(

I'm not sure how easy it is. A mate of mine put it back together (as it was his car). I can try to find some instructions for it when I get home, it might be visible in the Haynes book.

That would be magic, cheers.  Will check the Haynes book, but going by how utterly deficient their description/pictures of how to remove the climate control fascia panel is, I'm not overly optimistic!  It has a photo of a hand going into the radio hole but not one of the release lever for the panel - WTF!!!
(found a pic on here of course  :y)
