2.5TD Sump Removal
« on: 25 May 2010, 13:26:44 »

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to remove the sump with the engine 'in situ'.
It doesn't look like the engine/'box will lift sufficiently to remove it, (though may be possible), or does it entail lowering the sub-frame?
 :D
After drilling/tapping-out/fitting a threaded insert, have now found that the surrounding cast boss has a hairline split - which is obviously the real problem here.
 :'(
The replacement sump plug tightens securely enough, though am unhappy with knowing that the split is present. Have got a spare sump here though.
 ;)
Or, could I 'cut-out' the split, and put some 'chemical metal' within, and then re-sleeve?

Someone on here must have done this jobbie ..........  :D

should be easy to remove sump no sub-frame in the way the only thing you need to remember is there are 3 bolts below the crank that go into the sump casting from the chain cover.
welung or tb might know better
