couple of issues on the mig, advice welcome
« on: 31 May 2010, 08:59:03 »

The mig developed two issues recently.
1. First one is the some sort of humming noise coming from the front right wheel.
Noise is noticeable only at very low speeds (under 25 km/h) and seems to go away when the car accelerates above. My thought is either wheel bearing or discs? Car drives normaly, does wander around a little cause needs geometry setup in the near future.

2. Second problem is a little bit more serious. After trying to accelerate harder on Saturday I got a sudden misfire, and check control appeared, car went int safe mode (throttle response became very limited), parked the car and restarted it and everything worked normaly. Reffiled it at branded station and car works better but check control appeared again for a breef moment on Sunday after flooring the car and it dissappeared on its own. It seems that I get this only after the throttle is pressedd to the floor. Beside that car works normally.
I did three recent petrol reffils in neighbouring country and the petrol there is sh...  >:( so could be the cause of the problem. What possible fault am I getting here if anyone knows?
I know old Veccies had problems like this and it was down to egr valve. So I guess can a blocked or dirty egr cause this?
Thanks in advance.

sounds abit like camsensor going but though 2.2l had new type with out this fault, so could be the crank sensor, as for wheel maybe a stone inbetween the disc and pad.

Need to get the codes read to see what's going on. 2.2 has cam sensor issues, it's about the only sensor that fails on them. Did it restart ok when hot or take a lot of cranking?

Started immediately after being turned of, without any problems.

Re Problem One
First thing I would suggest is swap front  and back wheels and tyres. I changed both front wheel bearings to discover that it was the front tyres causing the problem.  After some time on the back, I then replaced them back on the front but swapped them diagonally so that they turned in the opposite direction. After a period of bedding in, they have been fine  for the last 2k miles. The tread had " feathered" on the rogue Firestones, making them rotate the opposite way has fixed it, but I am £150 worse off !!

Finally got the codes read.
They are as follows

P0220 - Throttle Position Sensor 1-2 Correlation
 (08) - Not present
P1550 - Electronic Throttle Control Reduced Power
 (01) - Not present
P1526 - Throttle Position Adaption Error
 (04) - Not present
P1405 - Feedbacksensor Exhaust Gas Recirculation
 (08) - Not present

Can anyone sheed some light on possible problem?
I'm guessing EGR needs to be cleaned, and this related to throttle position is it a sensor malfunction, faulty relay or...?
