Aircon servicing in Surrey/Sussex
« on: 24 May 2010, 14:21:45 »

Well after one hot weekend I feel it is now time to get aircon serviced!

I know nothing about aircon so should I take it to a vauxhall specialist or will any outfit do?

Cheers,
Mark

Not a dealer, not Halfords, not Kwick fit up, no, not ever, just to be clear.

The rest as TB said. Some mobile sevices are very reasonable, ring round for some quotes unless someone pops in with a local recommendation.

Well I certainly have found someone i have confidence in not only for A/C but all other aspects also. It seems that the problem with miggy's system as it was explained is complicated and I found it very difficult to absorb his explanation fully. However I'll try as I need to locate the faulty part so here goes. The fault is a blockage in the system and this caused heat build up. The 2 pressure gauges on the A/C machine are supposed to fall and gain to one another this was not happening, in fact one was going to zero, and other going to max.The parts he said I should check out  initially are- Expansion Valve,& Reciever/Dryer,He did show me where they are located, and when I got back home I checked out Haynes and was pleasantly surprised to find there is reasonable coverage in the manual so I'll see how I get on tomorrow if anyone on the Forum can offer any helpfull suggestions i'll be gratefull. He degassed the system for safety and said he would do a recharge when I was ready.Yes a real gem of a boss with pride in his business looking after about 8 employees. :y :y :y :y

What little I know of aircon includes the facts that the Receiver/Drier contains some sort of desiccant (like silica gel) which very quickly absorbs atmospheric moisture; and that any internal moisture wrecks the internals (it reacts with the refrigerant gas to make an acid which then rots the whole system from the inside out). So if it is allowed to get damp it'll not do it's job.

So. Leave the transport seals on the Receiver/Drier until right at the last minute before fitting, then get the system vacuumed and gassed asap (meaning within the same day)!
