no guide needed as its quite an easy job,
however first and foremost  stand the boxes on the prop coupling before doing anything else and secure them there, reason for this is it helps to prevent the centre of the boxes seperating, if that happens your in trouble!!!
remove the bolts holding the bellhousing on (after removing tc)
and liftt the housing off very gently!!! under it is a plate with strangely shaped wholes and tracks on it, you will also need this on your new box!!
an assistant would be good to keep an eye on things to be honest although i always do them on  meself, if its your frst one then all help whould be grabbed at!!! would suggest you do the knackered box forst so you have an idea of how its going to go back together and what ever you do do not mix the parts up!! refitting will be self explanatory good luck!!

Well i have removed the 25 tonight and removed the bell housing. The oil that came out of the box was black. It also lost some oil from the torque converter. When i fit the 35 will i need to add any oil to it before i run it? How is this done?

NOPE WHILE IT IS STILL in the air on jack and axle stands, start engine alow it to run for a while with handbrake off, select all gears manually i.e. drive 3 2 1 then reverse then park, shoot under the car with engine still running remove filler plug(might be an idea to loosen this before you start) and if no fluid comes out top it up till it just comes out of the hole, reselct all gears and check it again if it runs out the hole this time the box is at the correct level, car must be level before you do it this way!!

Update; i have swapped the bellhousing over and got the ar35 in the car, but i am struggling to get the box bolted up to the engine. I have had 3 goes and there is always half inch gap, either at the top, or on either side. It doesnt help that i am doing the change on my back in the driveway.
Also, where is the fill plug on the gearbox?

torque converter is not seated properly!! you need to remove the box and put the torwue converter in it properly, this means gently pushing it into gearbox and turning it until it slots home can be a bugger to do, its possible if you support the box on a jack to do it while its in the air though but you need an assistant really

Well i must admit to my total lack of experience in dealing with auto boxes. So the torque converter is not bolted to the flywheel, as a manual clutch is? I.e. it should be attached to the box and not the engine during installation?
When i removed the old box it stayed on the engine.

oh crap!!! sorry bud thought you knew that, the tc unbolts from the drive plate and stays in the gearbox!  if you have been trying to push the gearbox onto the tc then you may have damaged the torque converter seal!!! and guess what? the only reak way to find out is to try it!1 you can have a look at the seal with the box out but unless you can see its damaged there aint a lot you can do, i would guess it is damaged though,
two ways to unbolt torque converter, one is through he starter motor hole other is there is a hole at the bottom of the bellhousing sometimes it has a plastic cover in it, NB do not turn the diesel engine backwards!!! you must turn it in correct direction of rotation or it will jump the pump timing!!! you have been warned!!!
so turn engine clockwise and line up the bolt to tc undo then turn engine again till nest one appears etc etc use a 13mm depp socket if you have one, and dont drop the tc!!!

Oh BOLLARDS! This is the reason i asked if there was a guide to this conversion!
So if the seal is damaged is it repairable? I would assume then that it could of been damaged on removal of the old box as it took some persuading to get out. What does the seal look like? If its a small thin item then its definately fooked as i found one on the end of the old box!

Ok i am going to attempt to remove the tc tomorrow and hopefully the car will be up and running again. Does any one have a pic of the oil fill hole location?
