ABS/TC ecu intermitant fault
« on: 02 August 2010, 22:31:17 »

Recently i seem to have an intermitant fault on the ABS/TC ECU. I've read the how to's on changing this but just wondered if other people started out with lights on and off or did they just come on and stay on??
Doesn't seem to be a consistant fault, as I can set off with no probs, get 80 miles then the lights come on and the speedo and power steering goes. Other times I can set off with the lights on etc, and 10 miles down the road lights go off, speedo back on etc!! I started wondering if it was a thermal issue with the ABS pump and ECU being close to the exhaust manifold and as it heated up sorted the problem. Possibly a dry joint within the ECU.......?????

Does anyone actually know what the cause is within the ECU??

When i connected "My Naff Code Reader" with the lights on it tells me there is no power to the ECU so i've checked the wiring and earth connections and cleaned the earths up just in case. Still the same intermitant problem!!!! Doing my head a bit now lol.

Mine started the same way - intermittent ABS/TC/Speedo failure with no obvious pattern. Had a local mechanic take a look - he cleaned the wheel sensors and seemed to fix it. Methinks that was pure coincidence!

I read all the posts on here that I could find then bit the bullet and did it myself. It's not the nicest job in the world but easily doable - with patience!!

Check out the How-To section. The guidance there is invaluable.

Sorry, I left out the Anglo-Saxon bits between the "with" and the "patience"!!  ;D After I'd done the job I had to have a few days off smoking myself - until the skin re-grew back onto my fingers!

If you did that job mate the Cam Covers and the Filler Tube will be easy, plus no bashed fingers ;D

Yeah, just cost me the price of a refurb - about £130 if I remember rightly.

Fixing my total loss oils system will be even easier still if it turns out to be just the filler neck come loose!! (I'll still clear the breathers out though - before anyone gets in first to remind me - I'm sure some internal pressure build up ain't helping!)

I draw the line at a cambelt change though! :) Although if I were to watch it done (or have someone leaning over my shoulder who has done loads) I'd probably feel different.
