Power steering stiffer
« on: 07 August 2010, 22:58:56 »

Hello, a couple of weeks back I took the ABS ECU off and had it reconditioned. Whilst waiting for it coming back, due to the fluctuations in day/night temperatures, some coolant came out and ended up going in the power steering pump where I had removed the pipes for access ( I didn't bung them) On refitting and firing her up (with new ps fluid - didn't know about coolant contamination at this point) I could hear the power steering pump and it sounded as if it was running dry. Anyway, coolant floated to top, siphoned off then new ps fluid again, everything ok. Since then power steering doesn't feel as light as before. When ABS ECU was broken, yes steering heavy due to this fault, but doesn't seem to be back to it's old self, it's still very manoeuvrable but not quite what i remember, and not as good as my old Senator. Will a few ps fluid changes sort this, to clean out, or will a new ps pump be in order? Thanks!

Good point, I reminisce about my beautiful old Senators, that I sadly no longer have. If only people knew what brilliant cars they were!

Have you put the pipes back on the right wat round.

Plus check fuse 17 I think it is, steering has extra assistance at low speed, I felt the sifference when my fuse blew the other week.   :-/
