oil leak from front end of gearbox.
« on: 21 August 2010, 18:52:50 »

Hi

I have a 2.5 V6 omega and today, on my way home from my holiday, i suddenly had message on the dash which said, check gearbox. I then noticed that when in Drive, i was stuck in 4th. I then tried to manually select the gears, i got 1st to work but not 2nd, or 3rd. Then when back in D it was stuck in 4th.

Once i had got home it was clear that i had lost oil from the gearbox as a lot of was now all over the tailgate. Smoke was coming of the exhaustes where there was more oil and a small amount was dripping on to the floor.

It was coming from the front (closest to the engine) of the gearbox.
Can anyone give me a idea of what might have broken and how technically and how much this should cost to fix.

Thank

David

Is it aft or engine oil? Although would be fare to put two and two together....

Checked aft level hole?

Someone will know the relevant seals auto box to bell housing if it's gear box oil, if engine oil could be rear crank seal if engine oil in the bell housing plug/bung, or a bad cam cover leek if the bung is engine oil free.

Short answer is I don't know, but thought I would have a crack at it while I'm here...  :-/
