Presumably you had to undo the nut on the concertina stainless steel pipe between EGR and the exhaust manifold.

I can see that the bolt that goes in the bracket to the EGR is missing. I wonder if the nut on the concertina pipe is loose (or maybe the pipe has cracked?)

I left the nut loose on mine once and the sound wasn't very pleasant  :( but it was quickly fixed by doing the nut up again :y

Just checked- nut is fine.
But now for the weird stuff:
after 15 minutes practising yoga i managed to disconnect injection loom ( plug for whole injector set at the back of the nearside head) - and now when cranking - there is NO tappety sound  :question
when injectors are on- its surely loud enough in Idle to be noticeable during cranking.

So my finding: no petrol => no power stroke => no sound

That ( to me ) means it not cambelt or tappets related.

Later one friend with more experience will come to hear it running and than if no reasonable suggestion from him - will try to isolate EGR valve completely and see what happens.

I removed EGR and will make a plate to go between egr and inlet manifold to stop any gas passing.

Additionally my friend thinks it has dropped a valve and suggested to do a compression test - will do this before putting EGR valve with blanking plate back in place. ( at least on 3 cylinders below the valve)

It has been raining all morning - couldn't even do a compression test.
Blanking plate is ready.

Still wondering what else could happened. Any ideas?

Don't get me wrong - I don't like high speeds - But i am in love with acceleration - that is where i get my adrenalin.   :D
But saying that I believe that one has to be total looser never trying to see how his car goes - even if only once when owing it.

Unfortunately I am paying the price for that - I think I am down to head out job as on right head I have 150- ish PSI on 2 cylinders and 300+ PSI on the front one - no idea what the hell has happened but will have to investigate.

Update: I was trying to get to the cambelt today but rain didn't help.
I am doing a bit of a research so any comment will be greatly appreciated.
If I get it to work at least I will need one rocker cover as i believe its slightly bent. I do know this is common problem - should i go for one from vectra and use the older type gasket thats one for head and not separated into two parts?

Than if I end up needing a head - is it same from v6 2.6 newer engine? I would think its not - but still asking. What about other v6 vauxhalls ? anything compatible?

This will help me to decide what to do with the car depending on the damage. I might end up breaking it if damage is too severe.

Could be that it's filled with fuel / water / oil?

Might be worth cranking without a plug in it to see if anything comes out?

hopefully all is good now - I found the fault - somewhere a needle bearing from old water pump was stuck and while driving fell between timing belt and crank pulley - result is one tooth out on crank - the thing is that there is a correction in measurements - compression on all cylinders is 250 psi +- 2 psi. so valves are not bent. will try to put it right and if compression is good - will do a cambelt change + all pulleys.

Thanks for suggestions.
