Is from the facelift manual and mine is pre-facelift but after unplugging ECU coolant temp sensor and finding I hadn't got a hope in hell of getting it out and plugging back in my light is on.

It doesn't say not safe to drive in facelift manual?

This is the Emissions light, which comes on when a fault has been detected & a code stored. In this case, when you disconnected the Temp. sensor, it was detected as a broken/faulty signal & the problem code is now stored in the ECU. It is perfectly safe to drive with this particular 'fault'

It will stay on until you clear the fault codes.

So fixing the problem wont clear the fault codes?

Also thought I read somewhere 20-30 good starts did that?

Yes it will. The only time a warning light has to be reset after it's fixed is the ABS light.

No it won't, the light will go out when the fault is corrected. The code will be logged though till cleared or 20/30 'clean starts' have been done.

As said, fault code lights should go out when the particular fault has been rectified, this doesn't apply to 'saftey critical' systems such as the A.B.S. and S.R.S.
