I want to have a really good check around the n/s exhaust manifold to try and pinpoint the source of the blow but need to remove the heatsheilds.

Are all the fixings accessable from either above or below without the need to do much stripping off of parts and can they be removed with the down pipe still connected.

Also has anybody got a close up picture of the n/side of the v6 engine removed from a car as would be handy just to become familliar with where various bolts/nuts etc are.

Picture really helpfull..back one on the top sheild looks a bit inaccesible ,and bottom sheild looks like I may need to grow smaller hands.

Easy to see why the V6 crank sensor (wiring) doesn't last forever.

Do you think I could get the heat sheilds away enough to have a good look around the manifold for tell tales of a leak or split.

I took my engine out because the nearside headgasket was weeping coolant at the back of the block & I couldn't face fixing it in situ. I already had an engine crane and engine stand & I found it easier to hoik the engine out and work on it while standing upright (or even sitting on a chair next to it  )

I do have more pictures. I really must set up a photobox account  .  Maybe tomorrow......
