Hi peeps,
How do you get to and change a crankshaft sensor on a 4 pot?  Tried chasing the wire down the side of the block, but it looks as though it hides behind the frame that the power steering pump and ac compressor fits. Do you need to take this piece off?

 And yes it does need changing as have code read.

LOL, if you have a/c, its 'challenging', as its mounted between compressor and block

Thanks for the offer Proz, not stopping the engine running at the moment!!! Have ordered a new sensor and might just cry off fitting it myself given my health at the moment. Will see what the local 'proffessionals' will charge me to do the job. Need the car to visit Devon at the end of month. Clotted cream rustle across the wall.

I changed mine some time ago and it was a right idiot until I used the right combination of tools. UJ and single depth socket if I remember rightly.

Well thanks for the replies. Just got back from spending 60 notes and getting new crankshaft sensor fitted. Car ran really well....until dash light came on again. Code this time though P1781 which I believe is engine torque signal failure. My car does have auto box. Am I now looking for a wiring fault from gearbox to ECU?
