Help please
« on: 06 October 2010, 21:29:43 »

Hi all, just got myself another Omega after a 3 year absence. Just a few problems to run by you if anyone can help please?
1) Drivers door is locked and unable to open using either the key or fob! All others work ok. Is there someway I can reset or release the lock? I can't even unlock it using the knob on the door.
2) Brake lights seam to have a dodgey connection. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't!

Cheers, Paul.

In respect of your door problems it will unlock.

You need to use the key and turn it, which may seem very stiff, but the doors will unlock even though the buttons may not rise! ::) ::)  Keep trying the drivers door handle after each attempt. ;) ;)

Thanks for the reply, do you think the dead lock is jammed on the drivers door causing the problem?

It could be the motor jammed. I've got to come over to Kiddy Saturday morning if you want me to have a look :y

Do as Lizzie said.  Use the key you will need to put a lot of pressure on it.  The button may not pop up, but should open.

I have managed to get it by forcing the lock up using a grip tool. The motor is jammed it will lock but wont let me unlock it again. Looks like a new motor needed then. I take it this is quite a common problem on these. Has anyone had this done at vauxhall? If so what sort of cost am I looking at?

Sorry, I have just seen this in the how to guides. I am not going to attempt to do it myself. Everytime I do something like that it ends in disaster. I'll leave to someone who knows what they are doing!

How to replace it for under fifty quid:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152618707

How to repair it for much less:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1275155915

No idea what a Vx dealer would add for labour but no doubt a three figure sum.

Oops - my post wasn't a wind-up, honest!  I was just typing too slowly and managed to cross with yours.  Sorry!

As philrich says, there are some pretty talented folk on this forum and you won't just get a better price than at the dealer's, you will also get a better job done.   :y
