Having noticed that the non contact areas of my rear discs look a touch rusty I am going to clean them up and paint them, planning to do the calipers as well so that they are protected. Can anyone recommend a suitable paint (dark colour not day-glo!) to use? I would normally use Hammerite but I am open to the experience of others.

Mine has been on about a year now, no trouble at all. I chose a sort of "Opel OPC Blue" (Hammerite light blue),  it seemed to go with Nocturno.

Halfords do calliper paint ..... clicky I thought they did silver & black too, but they're not on the website  :-/

Wasn't it me that suggested the OPC blue? I think it was...we thought that we'd try a gaudy colour; the idea being that if you decided it was just too loud, the brake dust would soon tone it down! If you liked it (which you seem to!) then its a quick spray with a hose, and it's all 'blingy' again!

Standard colours are red (just a bit boring now, but personal preference)
Yellow - denoted Ceramic discs on Porsches

Personally I'd look for something that compliments the car colour. Alternatively as you say, something subtle a dark graphite, black or silver. (modern Vx's have 'star' silver calipers. Im not sure about in the days of Omegas, never seen an Omega caliper fresh out of the box, they've always had a tad more 'patina' when I get them!)

Best of luck....may be able to photoshop you a few colour choices, if you provide me with a decent photo. If you ask nicely....

Ive used smootherite silver from hammerite on mine, looks great and lasts absolutely ages if you put 2 coats on.

Smoothrite  better than the hammered finish .
I've used gold which replicates the original finish on the Omega but on the Manta I've used Plast Cote gold leaf and / or brass paint .
I topped up my stores when I was over in Scotland last week got it from Wilkinsons for about £3 a jar.
The Plasticote is "richer " in finish , looks plated .
Both are very robust and have been on for several years ( with the occasional touch up ).
