Fault codes 170 and 173
« on: 21 November 2010, 15:10:38 »

Hello all

I was driving normally 80 km/hour when I realized that the MIL orange light is on. I drove home and started the car couple of times, the light remained on. With pedal trick I found codes 170 and 173; Fuel trim malfunction bank 1 and bank 2. What does this mean. Which parts I have to replace ? The car seems to work normally, however.

Hi there
I had the P0170 code as well a while ago .
You really need the live data looking at to see what Maf is reporting etc .

In my case it was the Maf at fault but please dont change it till you know whats wrong  :y

Thanks for comments, I believe that it really can be the MAF. Actually I checked my earlier questions here and found that this happened first time in Aug. 2010. I have about 150 000 km behind so perhaps that is the time MAF will last.

Unless there is an air leak of some sort, but otherwise Maf usually.

Just for info..

I erased the fault codes and changed the MAF (original Bosch 0281002184). No error codes seen after that. What I see is that the fuel consumtion is slightly lower than earlier. Engine also seems to start easier and "softly" without rattling during first seconds like it did earlier.
