ignition key cylinder

if i take the brass levers completely out of the cylinder. will my ignition still work to enable me to start my car? :-/ i followed the guidelines to a T yesterday & i still cannot get the cylinder to turn in the barrel

That should work.  But have you checked the area I suggested last night?  The bit that the tumblers spring out into/against when the key isn't in the barrel, or the wrong key is put in?  Any sticky-outy burrs in that may catch on the tumblers even if they are flush.

Your answer last night totally confused me, unless that was a response to kneepad's answer?

Should do, a screwdriver or lolly stick should be enough too.  :y

Make sure that it's just the brass levers that you remove, so the cylinder travels inwards and locks there to hold off the steering lock. :o

You should be able to see which lever(s) are causing an issue. They should all be pretty much flush with the key inserted.

But check the inside surface of the barrel, as said, and also the pin at the inner end of the barrel. This is what was jamming when mine failed.

yes kevin i tried filing any burrs. one lever though looks always slightly high. they for definite went back right. any way gone down the road of new . thankyou very much input, much appreciated. :y :y
