timing belt

I have only just bought an Omega (1 week ago) and the timing belt has gone. I have a quote off the garage off £500 to £600,was just wondering if this was a correct estimate or way off :o

its a vauxhall omega, m reg 2 ltr saloon, petrol

Sounds about right for a garage to do it. Save a couple of hundred doing it yourself with a 2nd hand head from a scrapyard.

Sounds right, but on that age and spec of car the repair is going to be worth more than the car, so I'd look at a DIY fix....
