Advice needed installing car alarm w remote start
« on: 13 December 2010, 17:22:45 »

I would need some advice in getting the right car alarm with remote engine start for my 2000 Vauxhall Omega 2.5 CDX Auto. A 2 way pager is a plus but not necessary.
I need a reasonably priced solution. As I read into this it seems like it is not enough to get the alarm itself, but I would need an immobiliser bypass module, in which I need to place a spare key.
Is this right? Any advice is appreciated. Direct links to product too either here or sent by PM.

Many thanks.

Personally, I would steer clear of remote start. The engine ECU has a decent immobiliser built in which you'd probably have to defeat by sticking an immobiliser transponder into the steering column cowling.

Any immobiliser provided by the alarm would be a generic item cutting a couple of supply circuits and straightforward to circumvent.

I would forego the remote start and keep the factory immobiliser intact.

i have fitted many of these units in the past.you might aswell take the chip out your key and tape it to the barrel, creating your own bypass.but unless you know what your doing with these kits !do not do it as they can be a nightmare.do not buy cheap!

I think its the remote start side of things he wants more than the alarm, but generally sold as a package.

I personally use the wife as my remote start, saves me getting cold before I hop in.  ;D ;D ;D
