Hi all,
My 2.5 estate auto has just failed the mot in one aspect.
" Nearsides front Steering box has relative movement between sector shaft and the drop arm (2.2.B.1b) "
Anybody speak the above language can tell me what is wrong and what will need to be done?
I am waiting for the tester to return my call to give me a price to fix.
He also told me the Front Nearside Shock absorber is starting to leak so I guess it will be expensive

Sounds to me like he means the idler arm

Steering box is offside, steering idler is nearside, so suspect that is what he means.

Dont buy a cheap one, I would recommend this, as would many others.

not very clear wording as the steering box is on the offside,my guess would be the steering idler worn

I followed Jimbobs advice and have ordered the idler arm.
Any idea best place to get a NSF shock absorber?

Never just replace one shock absorber .. must always be done in pairs .. extremely dangerous to just do one as the other will be worn.

As said, always in pairs, always! All sorts of handling nightmares can result otherwise!

Thanks for your advice, I will get both replaced.
Garage was quite happy to do just one, just shows how easy it is to just do the minimum and then presumably keep replacing other things generating more work at my cost for themselves.

Front shocks retail at £76 each from vaux. Also budget for geometry check after.
