2.2 dti belt squeek
« on: 20 January 2011, 12:44:53 »

got an omega elite 03, its a 2.2 diesel 190k and just after i got it over a year ago it chewed a drive belt. had a mchanic put a new belt on and its started squeeking as in squeek squeek. but a belt slip squeek, the car had another engine put in before i got it cos the chain slipped and broke all. on this engine ive been told it has 110k.  he said he changed two tensioners and he also changed the crank pulley cos it desintergrated and fell off the car. i have just put another crank pulley on cos my man said it was cracking, i seen it and it was defo perishing. i have also put two tensioners, belts on the car in this process of elimination. my man has given up said he doesnt know what it could be. any help would be a great help.

As stupid as it sounds, we have seen several times new belts that squeak, and it seems to be as the printing runs over the tensioners.

After a good few miles they quieten down.

Not saying this is, or isnt the issue, but definately worth bearing in mind.

the belt on it now is two months old at least. it seems to make something vibrate with it. i put a belt from vauxhall on, eurocarparts, got one today from halfords just in case. cos its stuck if it breaks, steering goes. just to be honest the new pulley that went on mon with damper made it worse. not easy!!

om my dti the squeaking came from the tensioner first time, then the alternator and after all these the squeaks came and it was the belt. make sure your belt is tensioned at right specs because it may not be :)

It's an automatic tensioner on the DTi.

the crank pulley on my dti fell off!!!
put a new one and crank seal on and it was making a terrible noise and vibrating so put new belt on and same so then put new tensioner on and that did the trick.
i see you have already put 2 tensioners on tho, did you try running the car with the belt off , just stationary? it may be that the noise isnt coming from the belt at all,

didnt run the car with no belt! should i have done the crank seal too? good thought but the machanic said he took the belt off and spun everything by hand and said all seems fine. would a duff crank seal cause this? thanks for your help all.

i cant see i seal making that noise but i changed it for piece of mind, it took me ages to just undo the crank bolt, snapped 2 ratchets it the process, its not that hard to take the belt off and run the engine and have a listen, a couple of lights may pop up on the dash but as soon as you put the belt back on they will go out

Can Relate to what jimbob is saying. Elite Pete put a new belt on for me in October at 40033 miles and it developed the squeak in question. now with approx 41400 it still does it but only for 5 minutes or so then it goes?

Pete is going to have a look for me next time i see him just to double check everything :y
