Camshafts for power gain
« on: 15 February 2011, 04:22:34 »

Was bored on the nightshift so decided to look into ways of tuning the 2.6 lump. What would be the best cams to put into a 2.6? Have seen figures of 195bhp with the cams from a 3.0 but would the 3.2 cams be better?

3.2s are rarer and don't get dismantled.

Follow the thread done by MDTM about tuning and some of my notes.

Done at same time as the valve stem seals

Martin your list says you are running 3.0 cams. Did you put 4xG cams in or is it 2xG and 2xA. There seems to be plenty of info regarding this change in a 2.5, not alot for the 2.6. Has it made a big difference to how your car performs, is it faster, less mpg, etc?

I really would like to do this to "Waken up" my car just not sure how much better it would be. Is it also a straight swap or is there a fair bit of fettling to be done? Sorry for all the questions but you are the only person that has answered anything about this.

Just dropped in the 4 cams with 3.0 divider, ported the heads to match.

Similar peformance to a 3.0 I used to have 5 years ago but less low end torque.

On a test place 2.0 scores 74, 2.6 scores 84, 2.6 with 3.0 cams scores 87.

MPG is similar if not using them. Tyre life is shorter :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Fine for towing as well still.
