In preparing for the Meet at the weekend, and my ATF partial change, I checked and only have 5 litres Dexron III in the garage, so i went to the dealers to get a couple more as I believe 6/7 may be required. To be told they no longer stock Dex III and was sold Dex VI instead.

According to the workshop manager ... totally compatible ....any one any other opinion/comment ??

Also ... they don't carry any Diff oil, and mine looks a little wet, as I don't yet know the problem I'd like to top it up ... so how much of what do I need ... guessing EP90 or similar

I can bring some diff oil. Might even have a litre or two of ATF.

IIRC Sassanach was saying recently that he uses DEX VI.

Thanks for that .. I have 7 litres ATF .. 5 Dex III and 2 Dex VI which should be enough ...   The Diff oil .. I'll certainly buy off you !!!

about 4000 mls ago I did a full fluid and filter change useing dexron V1 as I got a t/c (auto box service req)  Shortly afterwards it came to my attention that some of the old dexron111 would remain in the torque convertor, now as the box seemed to improve with the new fluid, change ups and downs can hardly be noticed,I wanted to try and give the box as near to a 100% dexron V1 as possible,so I bought a pela and after about 2000 mls I managed to drain out about 4ltr from the level plug and replace it with 100% dexron V1,thought I'd do this again in the next week or so, then with every engine oil change afterwards, hopefully should eventually clear most of  the old dexron111,just feel I need to look after the autobox as I tow a caravan and I've always been a oil change nutter

Thanks Henryd,just read your link,now feel good, I've managed to do "summat reet" for a change,6 months ago when I discovered VX had superseeded dex3 with dexV11 I asked the chap at Jpat his advice when I ordered the filter and gaskets, I agonised with him on wether to use an aftermarket dex3 or VXs dexV1 and he said I'll do some checks, come back to me next day,I did and he left me in no doubt he thought it would be best to use the VX product

My thinking, rightly or wrongly, stick to the proven product. Thinking of the pas fluid issue where dex2 was upgraded to 3 then degraded again down to 2 after pas pipes where found to leak. 3 was backwards compatible in that case also.
  There are rubber oil lines involved in the auto box cooling to the oil cooller in the rad are there not? Not saying they are the same, but its the reason i stuck with 3. Just in case.

However if there are performance gains to be had with upgraded fluid then great, but is improved shift performance down to degraded old fluid? Rather than the upgrade?

I real test in shift quality would be to change dex3 entirely for new oil. Then change again to an uograded oil and note a further improvement....?

I know what you are saying .. but both local Vx stealers, and the link published a few posts back ...  state that Dex III is no longer available .... 

Guess we are stuck with dex VI if thats all that is made ..

As TB sugests, dealers want us to buy what they have. More money in Dex IV i bet...?

Any factors stock 3, although i had trouble finding titan 4000.

As we know, if serviced, an ar35 will go on to do mega miles on Dex3 along with the rest of the car, if serviced and maintained well enough
