Wishbone/tyre wear/MOT
« on: 07 March 2011, 18:41:10 »

Dear people,

MOT looming (Wed), and a quick look around revealed some uneven tyre wear on the NSF.  Outer shoulder this time, not drastic but enough to need sorting before the tyre is ruined.

Got a couple of pics which I think may show the cause, but I'm a bit too clueless to know for sure, so please advise.

Rear bush:

Balljoint with no wheel/load:

Balljoint with wheel/load on:

Presumably that's looking like an MOT fail?
Would the inward displacement that seems apparent at the balljoint maybe explain the neutral/slight positive camber, and hence the tyre wear?  Could the rear bush disintegration be a factor too?

Any other possible causes?

Thanks for any pointers.  :)

Rear bush is goosed, ball joint looks ok.

Is there any play when its jacked and you grab the tyre at 3-9 Oclock and 6-12 Oclock

I didn't try for play just now (stupidly) but I think I did a few days back and thought there was some 3-9, but not a lot 6-12?  I think that was with wheel on the ground though.

Needs new wishbones defo, so ball joint will be replaced with the part, but the ball joint is at that angle to the wishbone because the car is jacked it will level out and move with the suspension when at normal ride hight etc. Fubar bushes will account for tyre wear.

Diagnose, replace, set up, new tyres when done.

See handling tyre wear in FAQ section and wishbone replacement guides.  :y

Thanks guys, I'll get the PlusGas out and get squirting.

I'm familiar with the guide(s) and appreciate the efforts of those who've made them.  :)
