on tick over some times my engine is making this noise sometimes does it and sometimes does not when reving somtimes goes and sometimes stays then goes off on and off could this be a sticking hydraulic tappet.going to give the car an oil change on friday does anybody know of any good tappet lubrication stuff i can put in with new oil please :y :y :y

Seem to recall someone suggesting wynns valve lifter treatment. I would suggest 10w40 if the car has done a few miles. Mine has been noticeably noisier with 5w30 in it. :-/

car has done about 145,000 miles was thinking of getting some fully synthetic oil lick magnetec or will semi synthetic do

just stick to 10/40 semi synth and give it a good blast  :y

pish cheep from vauxhall if you can get hold of a trade card  :y

It is generally advised on here to use Vx semi-synthetic, and I can vouch for Wynns lifter treatment.

another vote from me for wynns lifter treatment, mine had an occasional tappet rattle after a lot of slow town driving but cured completely after adding a can :y

I have one lifter that clicks away when cold if the car has not been used for a few days, i used wynns lifter treatment and it did bugger all. :(

thats what mine is doing but rev the tits out of it and it goes off
