Now got this code in addition to the 1700. Vehicle speed sensor malfunction. What might be the cause? Where is the sensor? ABS lights behave as expected, speedo works ok. Previous trouble has been code 1700 which is obviuosly the selector position switch. Recent maintenace included new crank seal to the front, new belt and re-sealing of stat. None of them should affect vehicle speed signal? Bad connection somewhere but where?

Is this the can related error that pops up from time to time? Had it on my old car iirc.  :-/

Nothing came of it, cleared and never returned.

Trouble is my memory is crap.  :-[

One thing that came in to my mind: are the wires on the same loom for the vehicle speed sensor, lever position switch and for the engine temp sender (the one for the ECU)? I now have had all these "faulty", the 0650 cleared itself, 1700 and 0500 persist. Oh my...

Well, I will have the 1700 sorted when I get the "new" (second hand as original was 447 eur...) position switch for the gear lever.

So, the lever position sensor is now changed to known good one and the problem with gear lights is gone, also is the spanner light off. BUT! Still got the 1700 and 0500 when doing the pedal trick?! Are these codes going to clear somehow "by themselves" e.g. within numerous fresh starts (now some 15 starts and still got the codes)

update: the fault codes, both the 1700 and the 0500 have now gone by themselves, it needed some 30 or so fresh starts  :y For now, no codes stored, only a few things left to do... radiator fans not working, still got some play in rear wheel bearing, both rear doors rusty at the bottom corner (the previous 2001 model I had before the accident was completely rust-free  :o ).
