Hint for diff oil change
« on: 19 May 2011, 06:00:16 »

On very old Opel cars the diff oil can be drained by opening one of the lower bolts, the bolt hole has a channel to the casing. Now, in an Omega, there is no drain plug but people have drilled a 5mm hole to the bottom of one of the lower bolt holes to drain the oil. And, when filling, you keep the bolt off until new oil is coming out so no drill chips etc will not remain inside casing.

This method is alot easier that to open the whole diff and has been succesfully used. Yes, I know, it is not necessarily the most professional method but as said, older Opels have this feature factory fit.

Yep, good tip although not much need to change diff oil unless it's a LSD IMHO.

Remember some thread sealant or PTFE tape, etc. on the bottom bolt when refitting to ensure it stay oil-tight. :y
