V6 head gasket repl., what to do with valves?
« on: 19 June 2011, 09:47:03 »

Gentlemen,

I have been suffering of some signs of a head gasket failure for a long time. Now it got worse and I am going to replace the gaskets next week.
What I am confused about what to do or not to do with valves? I have called a local machine shop where I plan to bring the heads to whet them flat. They said it is not advised to polish all valves, only those ones which fails the pressure test.

I was told by others, it has to be done for all 24 valves whenever the heads are off.

What is the truth? Thanks.

A lot depends on you mate.
I have not yet had to have v6 heads skimmed. If you have the tools it maybe worth re lapping the valves, but you could turn them upside down pour some brake fluid or turps or something to see if they leak. :y
