i was at work today and the omega was parked at the house, my dad walked past it and there was a humming noise coming from th front right wing, he disconnected the battery and it stopped, reconnected it and it started again, i dont know how long it was doing it for. when i came i i reconnected the battery and all was normal, for safteys sake untill i find out what it is i will leave the battery disconnected ? any one got any ideas, only thing i can think of is the air pump for the rear self leveling suspension turning itsself on  which would be weird with no ignition ?

Power sounder... ?

only thing I can think of that would be live with ignition off, but they're not known for humming... Are they?

It's in the scuttle though, drivers side, if that can be described as the front wing?  :-/

humming sound was what my mun  used to describe it, i heard it tonight, connected the battery and theres a sort of clicky speaker noise, thhen its like the horn being pressed with a kinda dead battery if that makes any sense, iv heard abnout these things going on fire, so, what do i do ? dissconntect it and do without the alarm (i take it thats what it is), can i just wire a sirien in its place or a horn ?

Disconnect and remove it, there is a horn as part of the alarm, although that usually fails with no further effect.

It's possible to remove the sounder by just undoing the torx to scuttle bolt on the drivers side, lift scuttle, undo the 10 mill nut a little slide it rearward out of it's slot, pull it out then disconnect the plug.

ASAP.

Although first time it's easier to remove the wipers and  scuttle on that side.

cant do it untill the weekend as i am workin but the car is sitting with the battery dissconnected, the noise stops when the battery is disconnected

I did my first one without removing wipers and scuttle, because I couldn't remove wipers

There is a conventional horn in there as well.  Possible that's being triggered and it's sick?

Well the alarm?

And it's probably driven through a relay which might stick on.

If you hit it with a spanner it might actually start working - they're a bit crude.

Just changed my power sounder cos it was making a noise like that. The internal batteries were shot and to cap it all the main alarm horn was just about able to make a hum cos it had siezed.
I have replaced the main horn with a piezo alarm sounder I found on fleabay and it fitted perfectly. (12v 110db) for £6.95. The power sounder I made my own backup battery pack that is now connected externally to the guts of the original power sounder and that too works perfectly.....
Give it a go and it will probably cure your problem.

If triggered the indicators flash as well. Bonet switch is favourite.

If there's a fault with the power sounder, as there often is, the sounder itself goes off randomly independently of the alarm system. It has internal batteries, so an alarm can still work if car battery power is cut, these leak after time and battery acid destroys the circuit board which causes all sorts of odness, sometimes it sounds while driving. Sometimes, rarely, they catch fire destroying the car.

So as said, remove it, and go from there.

i have pulled the power sounder out, no noise now, and the alarm still works ok so good result, cheers folks
