When starting the engine from cold Right under the rear of the gear box (auto). I noticed a heck of a lot of some thing dripping from that area i first thought it was auto fluid but it turned out to be water. after the engine ran for a while it slowed and stopped. Could this be the heater bypass valve?
Seems a long way back. I have of late had to top up the header tank quite a bit.
Also I have to change the cats how hard or easy is it to get the bolts undone at the manifold end woud they loosen easier with the engine hot ? or would it be better to take it to an exhaust place and get it done.
Would realy appreciate some advice on these two probs.

The leak is in the right place for the heater bypass valve and they are the weakest link in the system.

Why do you have to replace your cats?
You can un do them from the rear of the manifold easy enough you just need to get to them from underneath the car with a few long extensions, don't even need to remove the heat shields.
Goggles and a torch should help you out. I've removed 3 sets now and always when the engine was stone cold, never even needed wd-40, let alone proper penetrative spray.

Thank mate. I have to change the cats because some silly b....ger tried to clean them by cutting a dirty geat hole in them and the welding back up was awfull, holes all over the place. the thing sounds lick a jumbo taking off.

Just taken the cat's off the 2.6 O/S was fine but the near side was a sod, just aswell i was removing the heads as i had to use a nut splitter and hacksaw to get the rear most nut off the inlet manifold as both down pipe,(upper cat flange) nuts were rounded off. But heat would have been good but i did not have it.

Maybe they 'improved' the design on the cars with four cats? Also they are an odd size on the older cars, 16 or 18 m.m.? Did you use the right size spanner?
